The Court Leet of The Worshipful Town Mayor
and Chief Burgesses of Warwick
Established 1554
TRADITIONS
& HISTORY
Founded in 1554, Warwick Court Leet consists of 24 Jurors, including the Bailiff, the Low Bailiff, and the Foreman, Ealdermen, and appointed Officers, to aid the running and the governance of Warwick.
Today, the Court Leet maintains the traditions and history of the 1554 Court with Court meetings, and the ancient Assizes ceremonies of ale tasting, bread weighing, cheese, fish, and flesh tasting.
As a legal body within English Law, the Court receives and deals with ‘Presentments’ from Warwick residents. A Presentment can be a matter of concern, complaint, or congratulations, for the Court to act on.
The Court also hosts community events throughout the year and, on Civic occasions, supports the Mayor of Warwick, who is the Lord of the Leet.
The Court also delivers Grant Funding to supports local good causes and charities in the CV34 area, with more than £50,000 donated since 2015.
