How the Warwick Court Leet Beer Festival began, and expanded
In 2015, the Court Leet took charge of the Warwick Beer Festival after the previous organisers dropped out at the last minute. Despite having just six weeks to organise the event, we managed to secure a venue and put together a successful festival. With an enthusiastic committee in place, we arranged for beer and cider, developed a website, utilised social media, found sponsors, and ensured smooth operations during the festival.
The event turned out to be a great success, attracting double the attendance of previous years. The Court Leet was pleasantly surprised by the funds raised, totalling over £15,000. With such a positive outcome, they established a Grants Committee to support local charities and needy individuals.
Over the years, the festival grew and thrived, with a wider variety of beverages and increased attendance. In 2018, we moved to a new venue, the West End Centre, but faced a slight decline in attendance due to an England World Cup match. Nonetheless, the festival remained profitable and continued to support local causes.
In 2019, the Festival underwent changes to streamline its operation and moved to the town centre’s Pageant Gardens, witnessing another successful turnout. Unfortunately, the 2020 and 2021 festivals were cancelled due to the Covid Pandemic.
A new venture emerged from the success of the beer festival—the Lord Leycester Hospital Beer Festival, which raised nearly £15,000 over three years for the hospital’s upkeep.
In just five years, the Court Leet successfully raised £65,000 to benefit the town and its residents, making a significant impact on the community they cherish.
